The last men standing see Bollington home

BOLLINGTON pulled off a thrilling victory over mid-table side Malpas on Saturday, thanks to an unbelievable last-wicket partnership between overseas player Julian McGovern and Syed Khan.

After Malpas won the toss and batted, Bollington made a good start with Mo Ali and McGovern picking up early wickets.

After a brief fightback, Stuart Plant and Tom Horsfield bowled disciplined spells, reducing Malpas to 110-7. Missed chances in the field resulted in costly late runs being scored, Malpas impressively rescuing their effort to make 187-8.

Chasing 188, Bollington slumped to 130-9 after they were seemingly cruising to victory with the ever-reliable Rick Hough and Ali taking the score to a comfortable 71-1.

After Ali was caught on the boundary for 61, wickets started to tumble and scoring became much tougher on a deteriorating dry wicket.

This was until McGovern and Khan met in the middle with Bollington staring down a humiliating defeat.

A flurry of boundaries from McGovern got the crowd on the edge of their seats, while Khan was admirably watchful at the other end.

The final two found themselves needing 10 from the final two overs, with all three results possible but McGovern struck three convincing boundaries to seal a momentous win.

Bollington are now three points off the top of the league.

Their promotion push continues at bottom of the table Oakmere this Saturday.
