Runners needed for half marathon
RUNNERS are wanted to put their best foot forward for this year’s Macclesfield Half Marathon – with all proceeds going to East Cheshire Hospice.
The 13-mile run, along with a shorter fivekilometre course, is on September 28 and the hospice has been nominated as the run’s charity of the year again.
Hospice events spokeswoman Nicola Burn said: “It’s going to be a great day and we are very pleased to be the chosen charity – it is a big honour which we are very thankful for.”
The hospice has signed up its own team of runners including staff nurses, volunteers and clinical director Helen Knight.
Race organiser Kate Ravenscroft said: “It’s a busy and exciting time for us as organisers. We’re seeing a pleasing number of people registering to take part.”
The event is organised entirely by volunteers, many of whom are also keen runners.
The event has its own dedicated Facebook page - www.facebook.com/ MaccHalf. This features answers to common questions from potential participants, training tips for hot weather and pictures of scenic parts of the route.
Kate said: “We are delighted to be supporting East Cheshire Hospice once again and we know that it’s hugely important to our participants that, as well as taking on a big personal challenge in many cases, they are raising invaluable funds for this wonderful local cause.”
