British champ Stuart takes third in the world

- MOTORSPORT SIMON ROWBOTHAM

SIDECAR star Stuart Brown continued his brilliant run of form with third spot in the World GP rankings.

Macc racer Brown and Josh Chamberlain had already secured a 12th British title at the Maxxis Sidecarcross Championship in Halstead, and the Macc racer followed up on his triumph with second in the German Grand Prix.

“We were leading before it was stopped midway due to the weather,” said Brown. “But second gave us enough points to get the overall third spot for the season. We were very happy with that.”

The pair have competed in sidecar races across Europe which has taken them as far as Latvia, Bulgaria and Russia and, having broken into the world’s top three, dominating the domestic game for so long, they now have their sights set on the world’s best.

“It’s always been my ambition to become world champion,” added Brown, whose dad Norman is a a former British champion and is now the team mechanic. “But it means a lot of travelling around Europe – after the French GP, we went straight to Germany for the next race.”

With the British title in the bag, he is now focused on the Nations Cup.

He said: “We won the British title for a 12th time with one round to go so that takes the pressure off us slightly. We’ve got this weekend off before the final round in Kent, before ending the season with the Nations Cup.”
