Children collect awards after completing reading challenge
YOUNG bookworms have been presented with awards for completing a library reading challenge.
Hundreds of children took part in the Summer Reading Challenge at Macclesfield Library.
The theme was called Mythical Maze and the challenge was for the children to read six books over the summer holidays, collecting stickers and doing activities along the way.
Staff held an awards ceremony where coun Janet Jackson, pictured, Macclesfield town mayor, presented the children with their certificates and medals. Katherine Yates, librarian, said: “Congratulations to the 859 children who took part in this year’s summer reading challenge. We’re pleased to say that 550 children completed the challenge and won an award.
“The aim of the challenge is to encourage reading for pleasure and taking part helps children keep up their reading skills over the long summer holidays.”
