Marketing apprenticeships up for grabs at a top agency
YOUNG people hoping to kick-start a career in marketing can apply to be an apprentice at an advertising agency.
McCann
Manchester, based in Prestbury, launched its Level 3 Apprenticeship programme three years ago and is now opening up more placements for the next generation of marketing talent.
Six budding marketers with A-levels or equivalent will have the chance to take part in the one-year paid placement. This year’s intake can complete a second year with the agency, achieving a Level 4 Higher Apprenticeship qualification.
Sue Little, chief executive, said: “We’re looking to hire the next generation of creative marketers into the agency.
“The apprenticeship scheme has been incredibly successful so far in attracting new talent – the lifeblood of our business.
“That’s why we’re extending it and investing even more in our people.”
Lucy Holland-Jones, 21, from Macclesfield, was one of McCann Manchester’s first apprentices, and now works as a senior production executive on the Aldi account at the agency.
Lucy had just finished A-levels at Fallibroome Academy when she started to look into becoming an apprentice.
She said: “Learning on the job seemed a lot more productive – you understand how the industry works and are dealing with clients and working on live projects on a daily basis.”
Max Gordon, 20, from Macclesfield, who joined McCann Manchester’s Apprentice Scheme in September 2012, said: “My job can vary from being out of the office carrying out fieldwork to writing up reports and analysing markets.
“Most of my time is spent on the Aldi account where I work closely with account management coordinating product testing and TV testing.”
Macclesfield College will continue to be the training provider for the scheme. Tracy Thompson, lecturer and assessor, said: “This apprenticeship offers a fantastic first step into a competitive industry.”
The course starts in January 2015 and the closing date for applications is Friday, October 31. For information and an application form visit mccannmanchester.com or facebook.com/ WorkingatMcCann.
