Voices unite for choir night

TWO popular choirs are to unite for a unique per­for­mance.

Mac­cles­field My­del Ladies Choir and the Mac­cles­field Male Voice Choir will star in the au­tumn choral con­cert at St Michael and All An­gels Church on Mar­ket Place on Oc­to­ber 4 from 7.30pm.

It has been sev­eral years since the last time th­ese two vo­cal heavy­weights came to­gether.

Martin Tute, chair­man of MMVC said the col­lab­o­ra­tion pro­duces a dif­fer­ent and dis­tinc­tive evening of mu­sic and singing.

He said: “This will be a great chance for the many choir lovers of the area to en­joy both a male and ladies choir singing to­gether on the same evening and we are all look­ing for­ward to it.

“There will be a va­ri­ety of songs to please all tastes: swing, tra­di­tional, popular and songs from the shows.”

Mac­cles­field My­del Ladies Choir is the only choir in the UK to have per­mis­sion to per­form the swing num­ber Re­turn to Mu­sic by Kirby Shaw.

As with other swing num­bers in their pro­gramme, the singers will be ac­com­pa­nied on this by clar­inetist Mal­colm Grif­fiths.

As for Mac­cles­field Male Voice Choir there will be popular favourites such as The Holy City and You’ll Never Walk Alone.

There will also be a per­for­mance of African Prayer, which was well re­ceived by the au­di­ence of 5,000 at the Com­mon­wealth Games Choir Con­cert in Glas­gow in June.

Tick­ets are £7 and are avail­able from the Vis­i­tor In­for­ma­tion Cen­tre at the Town Hall or The Hope Cen­tre in Park Green.
