Voices unite for choir night
TWO popular choirs are to unite for a unique performance.
Macclesfield Mydel Ladies Choir and the Macclesfield Male Voice Choir will star in the autumn choral concert at St Michael and All Angels Church on Market Place on October 4 from 7.30pm.
It has been several years since the last time these two vocal heavyweights came together.
Martin Tute, chairman of MMVC said the collaboration produces a different and distinctive evening of music and singing.
He said: “This will be a great chance for the many choir lovers of the area to enjoy both a male and ladies choir singing together on the same evening and we are all looking forward to it.
“There will be a variety of songs to please all tastes: swing, traditional, popular and songs from the shows.”
Macclesfield Mydel Ladies Choir is the only choir in the UK to have permission to perform the swing number Return to Music by Kirby Shaw.
As with other swing numbers in their programme, the singers will be accompanied on this by clarinetist Malcolm Griffiths.
As for Macclesfield Male Voice Choir there will be popular favourites such as The Holy City and You’ll Never Walk Alone.
There will also be a performance of African Prayer, which was well received by the audience of 5,000 at the Commonwealth Games Choir Concert in Glasgow in June.
Tickets are £7 and are available from the Visitor Information Centre at the Town Hall or The Hope Centre in Park Green.
You can also get them direct from Jean Snaith on 01625 423256 or via jeansnaith@btinternet. com and from G Waters on 01625 429403 or email tickets@ macclesfieldMVC.org.
Macclesfield Mydel Ladies Choir meets every Tuesday night at the Broken Cross Methodist Church in Macclesfield.
