New music festival hailed a huge hit

-

A NEW musical festival that took over Poynton for a weekend has been hailed as a success.

Springboard Poynton: Music For All was held at pubs, clubs, bar and specially assembled stages around the town.

There was music from a variety of genres from bands, groups and choirs.

One of the performers, Dave Harris from the group Monkey Harris, praised the ‘supreme efforts’ of its organisers, led by parish councillor Geoff king.

He said: “At all times over the weekend the village was absolutely buzzing with people enjoying the festival, talking about who and what they had seen and I have to say it was one of the most communitydriven events I have had the pleasure to be involved with both as a performer and as a spectator in 40 years as a Poynton resident.”

Some of the performers included Andrew Liddie’s trio Desert Wind, Poynton Youth Brass band and Poynton High School Concert Band. There were also big crowds for Cantata Choir, St George’s Singers and Mart Rodger Manchester Jazz.

Visitors could get tips on starting their own band at music workshops and Poynton train station hosted a performance of It’ll All Be Over By Christmas, a First World War anniversary commemoration focussing on the station’s role in the war.

Coun Geoff King paid tribute to the small team of organisers saying: “I still don’t know how we did it.”
