Winterfest takes over town again

- ALEX HIBBERT

THAT festive feeling is starting to take hold after tickets for Macclesfield’s favourite Yuletide festival Winterfest went on sale.

Organisers say this year’s event will be inspired by the town’s people, and its roster is set to feature a horde of local initiatives and community inspired performances.

Star names are also set to appear as Winterfest takes over venues around the town – with comedian Russell Kane and broadcaster Nicholas Parsons, who will be hosting ‘an evening with’, both visiting the town for the showcase.

All of the winter bonan- za’s familiar favourites will also return this year, including The Big Light Switch On at Macclesfield’s Market Place and the annual Christmas Party.

Bradley Snelling, the festival’s director, said: “This year, we have partnered with local community groups as well as local businesses to bring attendees an expanded selection of brilliant events.

“Though under the WinterFest umbrella, these will be independently run and that means this year there promises to be even more variation and fun on offer than ever before.

“As well as that, there is going to be a total of five art exhibitions, a season of films at the Park Tavern, kids’ activities with Wacky Woods and two events with the Cheshire Youth Group for New and Emerging Talent on Stage (Cygnets), as well as a gospel evening and more.

“With 20 featured events, there really will be something for everyone this winter.”

The festival has also teamed up with charity Incubation Arts, which, in association with Cheshire Artists Network and Arts Council England, will present a thought provoking exhibition of Cheshire artists’ work that has been inspired by the First World War. Winterfest 2014 will un fromr mid-November until the end of December. Tickets for all of the events can be purchased online now via winterfest macclesfield.com or by calling 07899 820 334. Alternatively, you can purchase tickets in person at the Visitor Information Centres in Macclesfield and Congleton.
