Withington’s latest accolades have come, not from external inspectors or awarding bodies, but from the pupils themselves, who, in a recent survey, agreed overwhelmingly that WGS is a remarkable school where its relatively small size allows each girl to be known and treated as an individual.

OUTSTANDING SUPPORT

In recent public examinations, results were exceptional, placing the school in the top 10 nationally in The Times newspaper’s GCSE league tables with 93.3 per cent of entries attaining A* and A grades - and at A-Level, WGS was one of the top achieving schools in the north west with 79 per cent of papers securing A* and and need to stay at home, I’m thinking, ‘I could be at school right now.’ The next day people tell me all the wonderful things they have done and I wonder why I had to have the day off!”

NEW JUNIOR SCHOOL BUILDING UNDERWAY

Girls enjoy the school’s facilities which are set to improve further next year with the addition of a new Junior School building and a central social ‘Hub’. The development is due for completion in time for the September 2015 intake and will enable WGS to offer additional classes in Years 5 and 6, as well enhancing overall accommodation throughout the school.

EXCELLENT TRANSPORT LINKS

Pupils also praised the school’s transport links. “Travelling on the bus with friends is great fun and means I get to know girls from other years too,” said one. Withington is accessible from most areas by dedicated or public transport and the school has also introduced a private, keenly priced shuttle service to and from Manchester city centre, including a later after-school service to accommodate extracurricular activities.
