Samaritans hike to raise aware­ness of char­ity


A SAMARITANS fundrais­ing walk took place along the Bollin Val­ley with man’s best friend help­ing them in­crease aware­ness of the char­ity too.

Fif­teen vol­un­teers of the Mac­cles­field and Dis­trict Samaritans met with their 10 dogs in Prest­bury for the char­ity’s an­nual four­mile stroll along the river bank, rais­ing around £150.

The Bo­den Street branch is en­tirely self-funded and re­liant on the gen­eros­ity of the pub­lic and in­come from their char­ity shop on Pick­ford Street to make sure tele­phone lines are kept open for peo­ple in need of emo­tional sup- port. Phil Bor­rows, di­rec­tor of the Mac­cles­field branch, said: “It was a won­der­ful day out and we were gen­uinely heart­ened by the warm re­sponse we re­ceived from the pub­lic.

“Samaritans is avail­able round the clock, ev­ery sin­gle day of the year. We pro­vide a safe place for any­one strug­gling to cope, who­ever they are, how­ever they feel, what­ever life has done to them.”

The Mac­cles­field Branch is al­ways look­ing for new lis­ten­ing vol­un­teers.
