Samaritans hike to raise awareness of charity

- DANIELLE ROPER

A SAMARITANS fundraising walk took place along the Bollin Valley with man’s best friend helping them increase awareness of the charity too.

Fifteen volunteers of the Macclesfield and District Samaritans met with their 10 dogs in Prestbury for the charity’s annual fourmile stroll along the river bank, raising around £150.

The Boden Street branch is entirely self-funded and reliant on the generosity of the public and income from their charity shop on Pickford Street to make sure telephone lines are kept open for people in need of emotional sup- port. Phil Borrows, director of the Macclesfield branch, said: “It was a wonderful day out and we were genuinely heartened by the warm response we received from the public.

“Samaritans is available round the clock, every single day of the year. We provide a safe place for anyone struggling to cope, whoever they are, however they feel, whatever life has done to them.”

The Macclesfield Branch is always looking for new listening volunteers.
