Proud sea cadets shine at regatta

-

TWO sea cadets represented the North West in a national regatta.

Henry Paisey, 16, from Bollington and Leila Jacklin, 14, pictured, represented Bollington and Macclesfield Sea Cadet Unit at the North West Area Sea Cadet Sailing Regatta at Southport Marina Lake earlier this year.

Henry, as the helm of a two man boat, had never sailed at this competition before or in the Bosun class boat he and Leila were racing. Despite this Henry, who has been sailing since an early age and Leila, who only recently started sailing, won silver medals.

Both were asked to be members of the North West Area sailing team at the National Sea Cadet Sailing Regatta, also in Southport.

They raced against sea cadets from across the country with fellow team members from Buxton Sea Cadets. After some very competitive and endurance racing, the North West Area came joint first with London Area. Henry said: “The Sea Cadets have enabled me to achieve many things and this is a highlight. It was an exciting days racing and a fantastic event to be part of.”

Leila, who lives in Langley and goes to Fallibroome Academy, said she was proud to represent the North West.

At the unit’s annual award ceremony, Leila was awarded ‘Best Competitor’ and swimming awards and Henry was awarded the Commanding Officer’s award.

Commanding Officer Karen Black said: “The unit and myself are extremely proud of Henry and Leila’s achievements.”
