Depressed dad was found dead at home

AMAN who spiralled into depression after the tragic loss of his partner was found dead at home, an inquest heard.

The hearing heard that 41-year-oldMartin Pritchard died after battling depression and alcohol problems.

An inquest into his death at Macclesfie­ld Town Hall heard that Mr Pritchard, of Byron Street, Macclesfie­ld, problems with alcohol started after the tragic death of his partner Tina in 2008.

The inquest also heard from his family members that he had attempted suicide four times in the six months leading up to his death in September last year. They told the hearing that on one occasion he had been found face down in a pond, and on another at a lake in Sutton.

His brother, Steven Pritchard, told the inquest on Wednesday (January 14) that unemployed Martin had started to become more depressed after Tina’s death.

He said: “t first it didn’t affect him straight away because he had a young son.

“He didn’t have time to grieve. Alcohol was never a problem for him before that, it was only after Tina died.

“He talked about taking his own life a lot. He always said he didn’t have the guts to do it. He said he wanted to die no mat-

Ater how much we tried to talk to him.” Mr Pritchard also told the court that he had found his brother dead at his home after being called to his house on Byron Street on September 3, 2013.

He told the hearing: “I found him on the bed. He looked like he was asleep.”

Martin’s dad, Malcolm, also told the hearing that Martin had talked to him about suicide.

He said: “He talked about suicide for six months.

“Every time he saw a doctor he told them he wanted to die.

Malcolm told the hearing that he was the last person to see him alive after he went to hospital withMartin the day before his death.

He said: “fterwards we were at his house.

“I told him we would get through it.

“He told me to go home

Aand said he would be ok.

“It was about midnight when I left.

“He gave me a big hug and promised me he would not harm himself.” The inquest was adjourned to allow assistant coroner Cheshire Alan Moore to make his final conclusion­s.
