Barber puts faith in footballers to become cut above the rest

-

A barber has thrown his support behind an amateur football team.

Ted Aldridge is sponsoring Poynton British Legion FC this season.

The team play in the East Cheshire Sunday League second division.

But while they are sitting mid-table at the moment Ted, 33, has high hopes for team.

Ted, who runs Ted’s Barber Shop on School Lane in Poynton, got involved through one of his customers Ashley Mernock.

He said: “Ash plays for the team and I always said to him, when I finally get my own shop going I’ll support the Legion. I am a man of my word, so when I set up here on School Lane about a year ago I pledged my support.”

Ted has ploughed hundreds of pounds into the team so they have a new first team kit and training gear.

Unfortunately, despite looking the part the team have been unable to turn that into results, with 11 points from the first 11 games of the season. However, a decent run could see them in the running for the title again.

Ted said: “I have high hopes for the lads, despite the start they have made. They do really well with the resources they have, and last year won the ECSFL Invitational Cup. The bottom line is that I want to support a local team and the Royal British Legion. My only problem is that because of work and personal commitments I struggle to get down to the games and actually cheer the lads on.”

Football is a big part of Ted’s life. He’s a Stockport County fan and the beautiful game features heavily in his shop.

Poynton Legion FC formed in 2009 and played in the First Division of the Macclesfield Sunday League before moving across to the East Cheshire Sunday Football League.
