Macc captains honoured to make donation

MACCLESFIE­LD Golf Club’s 2014 captain and lady captain were delighted to present substantia­l cheques for their chosen charities.

On behalf of the Multiple Sclerosis Society and the Mutiple Sclerosis Internatio­nal Federation, Martin Stevens received cheques for £1,429 from the Hollins Road club’s captain Allan Stevens.

Midge Barber, ambassador for the East Cheshire Hospice, received a cheque for £2,858 from Kay Atkin, the Macc lady captain.

Macclesfie­ld ladies were in action in their Winter League Roll Up and leading in Division One was Sue Gibson with 20 points.

The score of the day came in Division Two where Alicia Sutton posted 23 points.

Winter League action at Shrigley Hall saw a tight finish with three players locked on 41 points. Getting the nod in the card play-off was Nick Rainford from Martin Jackson and David Wells.

It was more clear-cut in a Winter Stableford at Shrigley with Joe Cassidy leading in with 37 points, ahead of Mark Knight (36) and Charles Green and Graeme Nimmo (both 33).

There was plenty of competitio­n action at Styal with a Saturday Stableford seeing Peter Cordwell leading in Division One with 40 points from Simon Geddis (37) and Rob Sanderson and Eddie Birchenhou­gh (both 36).

In Division Two, Len Rowland was a clear winner with 39 points, two more than Steve Weaver.

A Sunday Stableford at Styal had Steve Massey as the main man with 39 points from Mark Bowden (37) and Mike Burchell (35).

A Styal Seniors Stableford had Harry Mitchell firmly in charge with 41 points, three more than Harry Reid and Steve Weaver.

A medal at Mottram Hall saw Simon Conway win a cpo on 69 from Anuj Vij.

Alex Johnson and Ross Birch were two off the pace.

Mottram’s singles Stableford was won by Graham Roche with 35 points, one more than Mobi Rawthore and Graham Webb.
