Good news for group on birthday
VOLUNTEERS from the Friends of Bollington TowpathT heir first are anniversary celebrating with good news about improvements to the canalside.
The group was set up a year ago in conjunction with the Canal and River Trust and meets each month to carry out improvements to the canalside and towpath.
Now the volunteers have had news from the Canal and River Trust – which maintains the waterways around the country – that work to repair the collapsed canal bank at Adelphi Mill will start in the next couple of months. The project involves repairing 30metres of wall and should be finished by the end of April.
Mandi Brading, who is a member of the group with her husband Ian, said: “We’re delighted to hear the work will be done.
“The towpath is a community asset and it’s important it’s protected.”
The volunteers meet on the second Sunday of every month at 9.45am, the next is February 8.
Steve O’Sullivan, volunteer development coordinator for the Canal & River Trust, said: “The Friends of Bollington Towpath have re-surfaced hundreds of metres of towpath and achieved a tremendous amount. They should be applauded for all their hard work.”
