Good news for group on birth­day

VOL­UN­TEERS from the Friends of Bolling­ton Tow­pathT heir first are an­niver­sary cel­e­brat­ing with good news about im­prove­ments to the canal­side.

The group was set up a year ago in con­junc­tion with the Canal and River Trust and meets each month to carry out im­prove­ments to the canal­side and tow­path.

Now the vol­un­teers have had news from the Canal and River Trust – which main­tains the wa­ter­ways around the coun­try – that work to re­pair the col­lapsed canal bank at Adel­phi Mill will start in the next cou­ple of months. The project in­volves re­pair­ing 30me­tres of wall and should be fin­ished by the end of April.

Mandi Brad­ing, who is a mem­ber of the group with her hus­band Ian, said: “We’re de­lighted to hear the work will be done.

“The tow­path is a com­mu­nity as­set and it’s im­por­tant it’s pro­tected.”

The vol­un­teers meet on the sec­ond Sun­day of ev­ery month at 9.45am, the next is Fe­bru­ary 8.

Steve O’Sul­li­van, vol­un­teer de­vel­op­ment co­or­di­na­tor for the Canal & River Trust, said: “The Friends of Bolling­ton Tow­path have re-sur­faced hun­dreds of me­tres of tow­path and achieved a tremen­dous amount. They should be applauded for all their hard work.”
