Kathleen sings her way to century

-

A WOMAN who loves to sing has celebrated her 100th birthday.

Kathleen Jones can often be heard singing at Clumber House Nursing Home on Dickens Lane, Poynton, where she lives.

She was born in Ireland but her family, including seven siblings, later moved to England.

Kathleen was married to her late husband Ernie for 57 years.

Ernie served in Burma during the Second World War and was a prolific writer, penning beautiful letters to Kathleen and his daughters while he was away.

The couple shared a love of ballroom dancing, singing and holidaying in Spain.

Kathleen retired from her job at the University of Science and Technology in her late 60s.

Following Ernie’s death Kathleen moved from south Manchester to Marple, where she lived for 14 years, and then to Poynton in 2012, where her love of music continues.

Kathleen celebrated her birthday with daughters Anne and Carole and proudly showed her telegram from the Queen to residents and staff.
