VIC BARLOW TAKES AN ALTERNATIVE LOOK AT LIFE IN MACCLESFIELD Town cannot afford this chain of command – or £7,000 for tablets

-

IN July 12013 I wrote the following: dropped but hey-ho you can’t keep politicians out of the public purse for long. At a recent meeting of Wilmslow town council it was suggested that all councillors should have iPads paid for by the council to the tune of £7K.

I’ve seen what happens to laptops and iPads handed out free gratis. Trust me… it’s not the best use of public funds.

I doubt any councillor who doesn’t already own a tablet will find it impossible to purchase one. They are a damn sight cheaper than mobile phones and every school kid has one of those.

So, ladies and gentlemen, this is why I do not like multiple layers of local government.

They just cannot resist spending our money.

Doesn’t it say something for the priorities of local government that in this era of town centre crisis, black-outs and respite home closures a small town council concerns itself with chains of office and iPads?

Clearly (apart from discussing dog poo) there’s not enough for Wilmslow council to do.
