Chantelle chases dream after trio of sport successes

-

A SPORTS MAD 12 year old is pursuing her dreams after being picked to represent her county three times.

Chantelle Carroll, a year eight pupil at King’s School, has impressed teachers, friends and family with her natural talent for sport and dedication to training.

The youngster, who is a club netballer at Wilmslow Lightning where she trains each week, was excited in September to be picked to join the under 14s Cheshire County netball academy.

But it didn’t stop there, with Chantelle excelling in hockey too.

Chantelle, who lives with her mum Theresa in Bollington, had never picked up a hockey stick before she started at King’s School, but quickly took to the game.

In the months leading up to Christmas Chantelle took part in trials to make it into the Cheshire County Hockey academy.

She had good news again when she was told that she had made the cut.

As well as this, Chantelle is a javelin thrower and represented Cheshire last season. She hopes to do so again this year.

Theresa said she is proud of her daughter’s sporting achievements.

She said: “Getting into the county academy for netball was a massive achievement for Chantelle as she was trialling against girls who were 12 months older than her.

“This didn’t affect Chantelle in any way, but made her more determined to make it into the squad.

“She was ecstatic when she received an email telling her she’d made it into the Cheshire Hockey Academy.

“She is such a driven and confident girl and is learning about her sports all the time.

“She is always watching matches, finding out about netball and hockey skills and goes out practising at home until it goes dark.

“We have so much faith in her. She sleeps, eats and breathes sport and nothing can get in Chantelle’s way when she has her heart set on an achievement.

“We will support her all the way.”

The youngster hopes to be picked to play sport for the country one day, but knows she will have to pick which sport she wants to specialise in.

Chantelle said: “love sport and am working hard to represent the North West.

“It’s my dream to play for England.”
