City prove too slick for travel-sick Macc team

- HOCKEY BEN SMITH

ALTHOUGH their home fixtures were postponed due to the weather Macclesfield did see some action on the road.

But it wasn’t a happy day for the men’s first team, who were beaten 3-0 at City of Manchester’s seconds.

Although they applied the early pressure Macc never really got into their stride and as they lacked width and attacking initiative the hosts were able to soak up the pressure.

City of Manchester then scored three goals on the counterattack to take the points.

This weekend should also prove a difficult day for Macclesfield when Colwyn Bay visit for what’s always a gritty fixture.

Things were even worse for the fourth team, who were thumped 5-0 in a derby at Alderley Edge’s seventh team.

But there was some success in the ladies’ ranks, with the first team drawing 1-1 with Sale and the fourths 3-0 winners at Whitchurch.

The Badgers and Beavers both beat their Neston South Wirral counterparts 4-1.
