Dream trip after 5km charity walk
AMUM with terminal cancer has thanked ‘amazing’ fundraisers who helped send her family on a dream holiday.
Last year doctors told Jane Dale, of Newhall Street, Macclesfield, that the oesophageal cancer she was fighting had spread to her lungs and become inoperable.
After the diagnosis and hearing about the family’s plight, teachers Nicky Lloyd and Vicky Thomson from Bollinbrook Primary School, which Jane’s sons attend, decided to organise a 5km fundraising walk down the Bollin Valley on their behalf.
Altogether staff, students, parents and friends of the school, on Abbey Road, Macclesfield, raised £4,210, which paid for the family to go on holiday to Disneyland Paris, a place they had always dreamed of visiting together.
Jane, who went on the trip with 10-year-old twin sons Jack and Lewis, said: “I had always wanted to take the boys to the American Disneyland but I knew the journey would be a bit far for me to make.
“I mentioned the fact we had always wanted to go to the theme park to one of the teachers at the school one day, not expecting anything to come of it. After the conversation they told me about the fundraising event they were organising, and then after it announced the final amount they had raised.
“It was all a really big surprise. I just couldn’t believe that they went to all that trouble for us, it was such a kind thing to do.
“The trip itself was absolutely fantastic, we had a really great time.
“The school have been so supportive throughout everything, and all my friends and family have been as well – even people off the street donated and joined in which was really wonderful. I would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to everyone who took part in the fundraising and helped out, it really did make our dream come true.”
