Cricket club proves a hit with junior players

Name: Matt Stevens. What team / sports club are you involved with? Langley Cricket Club. Position: Junior head coach and grants officer. How many members do you have? 40 adults and 35 juniors. What do you enjoy the most about your position there? Being a part of our newly-formed junior section and making a positive difference to children’s lives in the local community.

Also being able to help the club achieve the aims and objectives in line with our five-year developmen­t plan. Where and when do you meet? Junior indoor training is every Sunday at All Hallows Sports Hall – under-9s from 2pm to 3pm and under11s/13s from 3pm to 4pm.

Senior indoor training is every Monday at Macc Academy Sports Hall from 8pm to 9.30pm.

Outdoor training will start in mid-April for adults and juniors – dates to be confirmed. What is the best thing about Macclesfie­ld? The people. What is the worst thing about Macclesfie­ld? The traffic. What is the most memorable sportsrela­ted thing to have happened to you? Winning the league and cup double as Langley first team captain in 2011. What was your greatest sporting achievemen­t? Facing Shane Warne for six balls and hitting one. Any other informatio­n? As a 100 per cent volunteer community-led organisati­on we are always striving to create new partnershi­ps with local businesses and individual­s and we will endeavour to help our partners out in as many ways as possible to help maximise any investment they make in us.

We also have some major ambitious plans for the club and ground and these include: ●● Refurbishi­ng the clubhouse, including: ● lighting ● plastering ● flooring ● internal doors ● storage ● an extension to include a kitchen, and secure stores for junior equipment and machinery equipment

● loft insulation and boarding ●● Improving our ground facilities, including:

● replacing the original entrance for general community access ● a club sign ● car park renovation­s ● storage solutions ●● artificial practice area Sponsorshi­p Perhaps you could offer your products or services to help with one of our projects in exchange for a sponsorshi­p agreement.

We are also looking for sponsors of our junior section. You could sponsor the juniors’ shirts or match balls.

We are open and flexible to discuss any proposal to help maximise the sponsor’s requiremen­ts.

We run three adult teams playing on a Saturday and Sunday, two friendly teams playing Sunday and in T20 games in midweek and have three newly formed junior teams at under nine, 11 and 13 age groups.
