- GOLF GEOFF GARNETT

THE draw for this year’s MDLGA Bell Cup – which features ladies teams from nearly 90 clubs – has been made and Prestbury have been handed a tie on home soil.

Prestbury ladies won the trophy in thrilling style at Greenmount in 2013 and their strong team will be looking to repeat that success this time around.

Their team begin on the cup trail with a preliminary-round tie and victory at home over Blackburn will take them into the last 64.

Dunham Forest will be defending the trophy they won for the first time in 2014 at Astbury.

This year’s finals day will be at Rochdale Golf Club, the home club of MDLGA president Janet Collins.

In the preliminary round the ties featuring local clubs see Davenport host Didsbury, Wilmslow pay a visit to Bolton Lostock and there’s also a derby that pitches Tytherington against Alderley Edge.

Macclesfield and Styal are already through to round one.

At Romiley Golf Club ground staff and players defied some horrendous weather conditions for the latest Manchester Alliance fixture.

Ben Thomson, assistant professional at Hazel Grove and his club partner Roy Campion posted a top pro-am score of 42 points.

Next in were Liam Burgess (Bramall Park) and Chris Jackson (Tytherington) who won a card play-off on 41 points from Didsbury duo Peter and Steve Barber.

Former European table tennis champion John Hilton (Mottram Hall) teamed up with Regent Park’s Marcus Corfield to win a countback on 40 points in the am-am section from Brian Carroll and Mick Wallace (Bolton Old Links) and Chris Lee and Tony Woodward (Mellor and Townscliffe).
