THE local elections on 7th May matter for Macclesfield because a Conservative Council has delivered over the last four-year term, and has the necessary plans to improve further the local economy and make Macclesfield an even better place in which to live and work. WE HAVE

l The lowest level of unemployment in the last decade, now at circa one per cent;

l Delivered a Council Tax freeze for the last five years with a sixth promised;

l Worked with local businesses, such as Astra Zeneca in Hurdsfield to create high-value jobs;

l Invested significantly in local highway and footway improvements and repairs;

l Restructured and transformed local services resulting in greater efficiency and genuine savings;

l Some of the highestperforming schools in the country. WE WILL

l Continue to invest in Macclesfield with a £15m potential spending. We will, initially, proceed with the exciting leisure and cultural proposals;

l Actively continue to help deliver Macclesfield’s potential as a prime visitor destination;

l Propose purchasing Paradise Mill;

l Review our parking and charging policy so as to provide incentives to visit the town centre;

l Further develop our town centre living initiative;

l Protect wherever possible the Green Belt, and develop sensitively brownfield sites;

l Strengthen our overarching policy for Macclesfield of putting residents first delivering local, quality services and real value for money.

This election will determine Council Tax and service levels to 2019/20.

We believe in local government disciplined to function within residents’ limited means.

If you agree, please vote for it.

LIBERAL Democrats want Cheshire East to have a more open and democratic council where major decisions should be taken by all councillors in full council, not in a cabinet with no opposition members able to vote.

Liberal Democrats would focus on cutting wasteful spending not valued services.

Key areas of concern are:

1. The Macclesfield plan. This is the most important issue for Macclesfield Liberal Democrats. We all need places to work rest and play. The new plan needs to protect our town from urban sprawl from Manchester and preserve the green belt. The many brown field sites in the town must be developed first. There is a need to provide homes for all, not just the well off. Improvements to the town centre are needed. Land also needs allocated for industry and supporting small business.

2. Elderly care and dementia services. These need to be protected and improved. We support the retention of Hollins View. The Liberal Democrats on Cheshire East have consistently been at the forefront against this and other closures.

3. Children services. We need to continue to provide the very best for children in the care of the local authority, giving them the support and skills to live an independent life in adulthood. 4. Highways maintenance. The roads around Macclesfield need to be better maintained. investment in pot hole repair and new road surfaces are required.
