Couple mark 60 years of wedded bliss
A COUPLE have celebrated 60 years of wedded bliss.
Peggy and Shay Allen of Priory Lane, Macclesfield, were both born in Dublin and met at a roller skating rink when they were teenagers.
They were married in the city and moved to Grangemouth, Scotland, where they raised their three children James, Lynn and Derek.
Shay, now 81, worked for ICI and was re-located to Upton Priory in the early 1960s with his family. He was drafted in to help establish the newly built chemical plant on Hurdsfield industrial estate, where he worked until retirement.
Peggy, now 80, worked at Parkside care home for a few years before working at the Larches on Kennedy Avenue, reaching the level of senior care assistant before retirement.
The couple have spent six decades sharing pursuits like cycling and holidays, while also enjoying their own interests like sports and art
Peggy and Shay, who have six grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren, celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary at Hollin Hall, Kerridge, earlier this month with family and friends.
Peggy said: “It’s been a great journey for Shay and I. It’s like we were made for each other.
“The key to a successful marriage is to have respect for each other, the rest follows.”
