A RUGBY team has won a tournament without conceding a try.

Poynton High School’s year seven team were victors in the RFU Emerging Schools Festival.

The boys played against four other schools and won each game, which meant they qualified for the first-place final.

Poynton beat Woodchurch in the first game by two tries to nil, with the tries coming from Rory Kinrade and Sid Williamson.

In the second group game, Poynton beat Holmes Chapel with the five tries coming from Rory Kinrade (2), Sid Williamson (2) and Alex Martin.

They then beat Leftwich 3-0 in the third group game with Sid Williamson scoring two tries and Rory Kinrade scoring the other.

Going into the final group game, Poynton knew a win against All Hallows would guarantee a place in the first-place final.

The Year 7 team won the final group game, scoring five unanswered tries from Rory Kinrade (2), Louis Spibey (2) and Finnley Kirkham.

Poynton then faced second-placed Woodchurch in the final which they won 3-0.

Try scorers in the final were Rory Kinrade, Sid Williamson and Joshua Johnson.

The team now go on to play other regional winners.

The team included Joshua Johnson, Alex Smith, Harrison ScottPatrick, Alex Martin, Louis Spibey and Jack Williams.

Also in the squad were Rory Kinrade, Sid Williamson, Sam Cunningham, Finnley Kirkham, Joseph Murphy, Declan Scanlon, Oscar Pilkington, Calum Heaford and James Rollaston.

The Emerging Schools Festival is organised by the Rugby Football Union and aims to bring new young players into the game.

The festival also puts much needed equipment into the schools, whilst the RFU Community Rugby staff provides coaching for the children and teachers.
