De­ci­sion day as vot­ers go to the polls

VOT­ERS will hit polling sta­tions around the town for a busy elec­tion day.

Res­i­dents are be­ing asked to cast their votes for at least two – in some cases three, elec­tions on polling day to­mor­row (Thurs­day).

Elec­tors must pick a new Macclesfield MP, bor­ough coun­cil­lors for Cheshire East coun­cil and town and parish coun­cil­lors.

It’s also the day the first Macclesfield Town Coun­cil will be de­cided.

In the Cheshire East elec­tions, 78 can­di­dates are stand­ing for 23 seats in 15 wards across Macclesfield.

Town coun­cils with seats up for grabs in­clude Bolling­ton and Poyn­ton, with the parishes of Dis­ley and Ket­tleshulme also ap­point­ing new rep­re­sen­ta­tives.

The count for Macclesfield MP is at Macclesfield Leisure Cen­tre, from 2am with re­sults ex­pected about 7am.

The Cheshire East count be­gins at 3pm on Fri­day and should be de­clared about 7pm.

Vot­ers must go to their des­ig­nated polling sta­tion, which is listed on the poll cards sent out to homes.

Polling sta­tions are open from 7am to 10pm.
