Alan hangs up his oven gloves at 72

-

A BUSINESS owner is to hang up his gloves after calling time on his oven valeting career.

Alan Cordwell, 72, has run the Ovenu Macclesfield and Stockport franchise for 12 years.

He is now on the lookout for two new recruits to hand over the reins of the business.

Alan had successful careers in computing and purchasing before joining the Ovenu network.

He started out covering the Stockport area in 2003 before expanding into Macclesfield in 2005 at the age of 60.

During the 12 years Alan cleaned more than 6,000 oven with 60 per cent of his business com- ing from recommendations and repeat custom.

Alan said: “Being my own boss allowed me to tailor my schedule, which was a massive selling point when I first started out, and I was fortunate that the opportunity with Ovenu was available, as employers were reluctant to take me on because of my age.

“It’s going to be a strange feeling not going out to work anymore, but it has been an absolute pleasure to serve my customers throughout the years, who I have got to know so well, and I would like to thank them for their loyalty.”

Rik Hellewell, managing director of Ovenu, said: “Alan is a prime example of someone who has really bought into the brand and seen it grow, with age being no barrier for his success.

“Alan has left behind a thriving, well run business.”
