Welsby keeps cool head to pick off opponent

- BOXING

LOUIS Welsby was in action for Macclesfield Boy’s Boxing Club last week, going up against Ryan Hill from Llay ABC.

The fight was in Hill’s backyard, taking place at the Llay Royal British Legion in Watts Dyke.

It started off with Hill showing a lot of aggression throwing shots wildly without any real technique.

Welsby looked to be in trouble but after 30 seconds he had got the measure of Hill and started to land shot clean shots that resulted in Hill’s first eight count.

Round two followed the same format but Welsby looked a lot more in control, keeping a good work rate and again giving Hill another eight count.

As they entered the third, Welsby was in total control, boxing well with some beautiful shots and as the final bell rang there was no question that the winner was Welsby, unanimous.

Also in action was Ross Patterson, who took a bout with only 24-hoursnotice against Simon Porter from Llay ABC.

Round one saw Porter use his range and land some good shots, looking classy in the process.

Patterson applied the pressure in round two, hoping that Porter would tire as he kept it at range, but he was getting caught.

Round three was by far Patterson’s best round as he proceeded to push forward with some success but as the final bell rang he knew he hadn’t done enough, with Porter getting the decision, though Patterson was highly praised for stepping in at the last minute.
