Rugby coach picks up awards
LITTLE rugby players are celebrating having the best coach around after he won a parents’ award.
Bollington-based rugby coach Alick Willis won ‘Best After School Activity Class’ and ‘Best Class for 2 to 4 year olds’ in the Macclesfield and Congleton area for his Rugbytots classes.
The classes for boys and girls aged 2 to 11 use rugby skills and ethos to teach confidence, teamwork and respect while having fun.
The awards, by parent website Mums in the Know, come on the back of recently being awarded ‘Best Service Provider’ in the UK for his coaching and service skills at the National Rugbytots Conference in London.
Alick runs the classes with wife Karen, a nursery school Early Years practitioner who has coached children for many years.
Alick also coaches in local primary schools, bringing his coaching skills to a wider audience.
He said: “Having started with a few children in September 2013 we now coach over 370 children a week in private classes and schools.
“We are very proud of the awards, as our parents and schools have voted for us which means so much to us both.
“Myself and Karen love taking the classes and hopefully that comes over in the fun and enthusiasm we put into our sessions.”
