Rugby coach picks up awards

LIT­TLE rugby play­ers are cel­e­brat­ing hav­ing the best coach around af­ter he won a par­ents’ award.

Bolling­ton-based rugby coach Alick Wil­lis won ‘Best Af­ter School Ac­tiv­ity Class’ and ‘Best Class for 2 to 4 year olds’ in the Macclesfield and Con­gle­ton area for his Rug­by­tots classes.

The classes for boys and girls aged 2 to 11 use rugby skills and ethos to teach con­fi­dence, team­work and re­spect while hav­ing fun.

The awards, by par­ent web­site Mums in the Know, come on the back of re­cently be­ing awarded ‘Best Ser­vice Provider’ in the UK for his coach­ing and ser­vice skills at the Na­tional Rug­by­tots Con­fer­ence in Lon­don.

Alick runs the classes with wife Karen, a nurs­ery school Early Years prac­ti­tioner who has coached chil­dren for many years.

Alick also coaches in lo­cal pri­mary schools, bring­ing his coach­ing skills to a wider au­di­ence.

He said: “Hav­ing started with a few chil­dren in Septem­ber 2013 we now coach over 370 chil­dren a week in pri­vate classes and schools.

“We are very proud of the awards, as our par­ents and schools have voted for us which means so much to us both.

“My­self and Karen love tak­ing the classes and hope­fully that comes over in the fun and en­thu­si­asm we put into our ses­sions.”
