The Games, part of the Sainsbury’s School Games, take place on July 8 at the centre and the adjacent Fallibroome Academy.
More than 1,000 children will take part in nine sports including athletics, rounders, golf, table tennis and gymnastics.
Duncan Setterington, Active Cheshire’s strategic lead for education, said he was ‘delighted’ to bring the flagship festival to Cheshire East for the first time. ●● STUDENTS and members of the public had the opportunity to discover a world of jobs, apprenticeships and further learning at Macclesfield College’s careers fair.
Local businesses and organisations offered advice on career paths and training options.
Employers including Barclays, McCann Manchester and the RAF attended alongside Macclesfield College’s team of learning and training experts to help those looking for jobs, apprenticeship vacancies, options after GCSEs or progression to degree level.
Macclesfield MP David Rutley came along to lend his support and said it was ‘fantastic’ to see so many visitors and exhibitors supporting apprenticeships.
He added that he would encourage all young people unsure about their futures to find out what kind of apprenticeships are available.
Dawn Ridehalgh, the college’s head of business development, said apprenticeships represented a worthwhile route to a career and added: “There is a tremendous range of opportunities available for young people in the area and it was great to see so many businesses and industry sectors supporting our careers fair.”
