Fair to celebrate creative talent

-

A COUPLE of artists are organising a fair to celebrate the wealth of creative talent on offer in Bollington.

Artist Stuart Bennett and Helen Gretton, a writer and photographer, are making plans for an arts and crafts fair in the town.

They hope the summer event will be a showcase for the town’s creativity, with stalls from artists and crafters through to buskers, beekeepers and brewers.

It will be an opportunity for the artists and makers to show displays of their work and sell their items.

Stuart, an artist and designer from Bollington, has urged artists to get in touch to be involved in the day.

He said: “The day is being organised in good faith for the community and not for profit.

“We would love to hear from any talented local people or groups, and acoustic buskers, who may be interested.

“This can include individuals who would like to club their talents together on a joint or shared stall.”

He added: “The fair represents the unique creativity of Bollington folk and therefore the stallholders and musicians must live in the Bollington area.

“There are still a few stalls available and all the pitch fees will be donated to the Bollington Arts Centre.

“The Bridgend car park will be transformed into a cornucopia of artistic local talent.”

Helen will be running her Hippy Valley stall, which sells funky greetings cards.

Also among the stallholders will be Suzanne Gill, a Bollington glass artist who has run arts events in the town before.

She and Debra Tracey-Carney, of The Creative Space Studio, helped launch the Artisan Market at Clarence Mill, which has been another opportunity to showcase artists and for residents to buy locally produced gifts.

Suzanne will sell her glassware on her Where Seagulls Fly stall.

The Summer Arts and Crafts fair is on Sunday, August 9 from 10am to 4pm, at the Bridgend car park outside Broadheads Garage on Palmerston Street.

Local businesses will be supporting the venture by opening specially on the Sunday.

Refreshments will be available at Pappa’s cafe and takeaway just up the road. Interested parties can get in touch at sben@ live.co.uk or by calling 07939 835847.
