BBC Football Focus presenter Dan Walker played a big part in promoting the new QFairway membership scheme in a busy day at Mottram Hall.

QHotels are the largest golf-resort operator and current AA Hotel Group of the Year and they provided an insight into its golf operations, which have more than doubles in the last year.

Select members of the golf media and sporting guests including former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan and former top soccer manager Brian Horton, attended a superb day which included golf, dinner and a Q and A session.

This was hosted by Dan and answering the questions were Vivien Sirotkin the director of hotel operations and John Angus the group director of golf who stressed QHotels’ drive to increase participation among juniors and females.

Sirotkin said: “One of the big pushes for 2015/16 is to increase the number of female golfers.

“Lady golfers make up just six per cent of our members at the moment, which is below the national average and it is our intention to raise that figure.”

Angus added:“In just a few months we have seen more than 1,000 new golfers take up the QFairway membership and free junior memberships are available to all children aged 15 and under providing that their parent or guardian also has adult membership at the same time.

“QGolf Academies will launch across all 11 resorts with a commitment to growing participation levels particularly among juniors and female golfers.

Dan Walker, himself a keen golfer, said: “I wasn’t a member of a golf club for a long time as I couldn’t see the value when I didn’t have time to play enough.

“The QFairway membership scheme addresses those issues and gives golfers access to some tremendous courses at the same time. “My maths isn’t magnificent but £375 for up to 50 rounds is what my dad would refer to as ‘good numbers’.”
