Macclesfield Express - - TOUGH NEW POWERS TO RECLAIM ‘NO-GO AREA’ -

A COUNCIL-RUN waste depot is to get CCTV protection after it was hit by fuel thieves twice in the space of a month.

Cheshire East Council will use the cameras to protect the ANSA Waste Management Depot on Commercial Road in Macclesfield.

The 360-degree ‘Predactor’ cameras will also cover the underpass at Water’s Green where there have been 27 crimes including robbery since 2012.

The first camera is situated in the car park on Gas Road and the second camera in the council depot.

The move follows two incidents when the depot was broken into and thousands of pounds worth of fuel siphoned off.

It is estimated that 1,500 litres worth around £1,500 was siphoned off from refuse collection vehicles between February 16 and 17.

In an almost identical theft overnight between March 11 and 12 around 1,000 litres of fuel from 10 waste vehicles.

Following the two raids Cheshire East Council reviewed its security measures at the depot.

Images from the camera which will operate 24-hours a day will be transmitted to the CCTV control room at Macclesfield Town Hall.
