Whizz-kid, 16, has a hit with online game

ATEENAGE game designer has racked up a massive one million plays with his online football game.

Aaron Cavanagh, 16, who lives on Cherryfields Road in Broken Cross, has made a free game which is attracting around 20,000 players daily.

The aim of the game is to build a fantasy football team.

Aaron, who lives with mum Michelle, started making games at the age of 14 when his teacher at Fallibroome Academy, Miss Hilditch, gave them the task of designing one in class.

He said: “I didn’t want to make one at first as it looked like a lot of hard work but I gave it a go and found I really enjoyed it.”

And after going on to design some games of his own, he came up with the idea for his ‘FIFA 15 Pack Opening Simulator’, which has been popular with a million football fans.

He said: “I have about 6,500 comments on the FIFA 15 pack game and around 99 per cent are positive, with people saying it’s one of the best games out there and that they’re addicted to it.

“Even my ICT teacher, David Yarwood, played it and told me never to give up on my dream.”

He added: “I think the reason the game has had so much success is that I’m so consistent at updating it every day.”

After finishing school this year, Aaron is set to begin an apprenticeship with a web developer and has ambitions to have his own games company one day.

Aaron, who has an older brother Kieran, 19, said: “I would love to do game design right now but I can’t find a company to take me on as I’m only 16.”

The youngster’s reason for designing and developing the games is not financial though.

He said: “It would be great to make a lot of money out of it but I just enjoy making them and having lots of people play them, that’s what really motivates me.

“I was up until 4am the other night making another one, Rugby Packs Opening Simulator, it’s addictive!”

As for how his mum, Michelle and dad, Mark, feel about his skills, he said: “My parents are encouraging but don’t tend to look at my games as they don’t understand them!”
