Theatre group’s award haul
A THEATRE group has picked up a string of awards for its performances.
The Bollington Festival Players are members of the Cheshire Theatre Guild.
That means every performance is judged by a professional adjudicator from the guild.
Every year the guild has an awards ceremony at which they give awards to societies across Cheshire based on performances during the previous season.
The ceremony involves a large range of categories.
At the latest awards ceremony at The Little Theatre in Altrincham the Bollington players had a total of 16 nominations and won six awards.
Awards included best costume, best junior production director for Emma Sheldon, Nigel Wells and Josh Bratherton for James and the Giant Peach and the ‘Oh Yes You Have’ Trophy for Best Pantomime for Robin Hood and Babes in the Wood.
The Adjudicators Award went to Anthony Davies for outstanding performance as Dame.
In the adults awards The Chronical Cup for Best Director went to Craig Harris, Diane McIntyre and Richard Comish for Second From Last in the Sack Race and the group won the Jane Keylock award for Comedy for the same show.
Jane Wells, from the group, said; “The awards involve a large number of societies and it’s a fantastic achievement.
“We are so proud of everyone involved in every aspect of putting on a production and supporting the society.”
Bollington Festival Players started performing in the 60s and members of all ages put on plays and pantomimes through the year.
The panto generally runs for just over a week and there are typically one or two plays a year. These may feature adult casts, juniors or both.
All performances are at The Arts Centre in Bollington.
The next production is the pantomime Sleeping Beauty at the Arts Centre, Bollington from January 8 to 16.
