Tennis players swap rackets for golf clubs
MACCLESFIELD Tennis Club is holding its annual golf day at the Tytherington Club on Thursday, September 10.
Members, their friends and any keen golfers are invited to a fun day consisting of a mixed Stableford competition in teams of four.
Stableford is a golf scoring system where rather than counting the total number of strokes taken, it involves scoring points based on the number of strokes taken at each hole.
Under Stableford rules, the objective is to have the highest score, whereas in traditional scoring methods the aim is to have the lowest score,
The competition will be based on full handicap, which means with the best two nett scores on each hole counting.
The competition includes prizes for nearest the pin, longest drive and champagne moment and there will be an envelope collection for East Cheshire and a raffle.
The tee is reserved for the club from 12.30 with groups going off at eight minute intervals .
After the round there will be a sumptuous two course dinner served in the Dorchester suite at 7pm.
Entertainment will be provided by guitarist and singer/songwriter Becky Mills.
Becky performs regularly at venues all over the UK.
The cost for the golf and the dinner is £45 and for those just attending the dinner the price is £20.
Tennis club committee member James Rouse said: “Last year we had seven teams playing golf and 40 for dinner and I’m expecting a similar number this year.
“We are really excited that Becky Mills can join us.
“She is a very gifted guitarist and singer/ songwriter with a superb voice.”
An all male-team won the golf competition last year.
