●● MACCLESFIE­LD Cricket Club has raised £600 for East Cheshire Hospice with its annual ladies lunch event.

The event at the ground on Victoria Road including a three-course meal cooked by Michelle Platt, caterer at the club, and her team.

This year the club had a raffle in aid of the hospice in memory of a the late Sylvia Holland, a member of the cricket club Ladies Lunch regular, who also volunteere­d at the hospice. The raffle had donations from P.R Jones The Jewellers, Macclesfie­ld, RS Higginboth­am Haulage, Railway Inn Congleton, Nails and Beauty by Johanna, The Sutton Gamekeeper, DV8 Congleton, TTS Meats, Chestergat­e Cosmetics among others.

Claire Hughes from the cricket club said: “Sylvia was a lovely lady and volunteere­d at the hospice and was a great friend to my mother. The weather was lovely the cricket was great with Macclesfie­ld 1st Team beating Marple, and to top it all off we raised a fantastic £600 for East Cheshire Hospice. I want to thank all the local businesses for their kind donation.” ●● THE Silk Trader on Brook Street will host a northern soul and motown night on August 28.
