AN application for planning permission has been approved by Cheshire East Council for a two storey side extension and single storey rear extensions at a property on Smithy Lane.

Permission has also been granted for an amendment to the front elevation and alterations to the site entrance and front curtilage. ●● PLANNING permission has been sought from Cheshire East Council for improvement works to be carried out on a listed building.

Alterations to the visitor facilities and open spaces at Hare Hill Gardens have been proposed.

These include improvements to the car park, a new welcome building and new pedestrian routes.

The applicant also wishes to reinstate the demolished sections of the original backsheds area adjacent to the walled garden and to make an overall improvement to the landscape quality and visitor experience.

The application states that the absence of a lodge at the entrance and the pedestrian route into the gardens means visitors may not know they are on the historic drive as they walk in.

It adds that inadequate parking spaces create problems at busy periods and that the impression visitors receive on arrival ‘does not fit with that of a parkland landscape and rural estate’. ●● INDIAN restaurant The Saffron Room has now closed at the White House Manor on New Road but will be re-opening in three to five weeks at the old Prestbury Village Restaurant site on New Road.

The restaurant will also be serving takeaway food from its new kitchen from Thursday, August 20.
