Restaurant praised for support of local breast cancer patients
A RURAL restaurant which hosts a breast cancer group has been praised for its help in supporting patients after their treatment.
Sutton Hall, which is based on Bullocks Lane, Sutton, provides facilities for the After Treatment Group. The group, which started in June, aims to address concerns of patients following their illness, such as fears relating to recurrence and healthy living.
It was mentioned at a Macmillan Question Time event at the House of Commons earlier this month.
Macclesfield MP David Rutley met with Victoria Adinkra, Macmillan breast care nurse in Macclesfield, ahead of the summit and heard how the After Treatment Group was a positive example of how breast cancer patients are being helped locally after they have completed their course of treatment.
Mr Rutley was told that the group can only accommodate 20 women and similar groups and venues are needed in the town.
Following the meeting, Mr Rutley has called for additional support for the after breast cancer care, which is provided by the Macmillan Resource Centre at Macclesfield hospital.
He said: “I was very pleased to have the opportunity to discuss how the fantastic work done by Victoria and the rest of the Macmillan team in Macclesfield can be more fully supported.
“It is estimated that four million people will have received a diagnosis of cancer by 2030, which is why the Government has offered a further £10 billion, to help fight this terrible illness.
“Macclesfield is fortunate to have such a good volunteer base, with many people already giving up their own time for free to help local good causes.
“I would ask local people and potential volunteers who are interested in offering their time or any resources to contact either Victoria Adinkra via her email Victoria.adinkra@nhs.net or Janet Parkinson, the Macmillan Support and Information Manager via janet.parkinson3@nhs. net, who are based at the Macclesfield Macmillan Centre.”
