Team W claim Showcase win

SHRIGLEY Hall were great hosts for the Corporate Showcase Day which attracted 35 local and national business teams to enjoy their splendid facilities and a course in prime condition and they also enjoyed superb weather.

The top team after a cpo on 49 points were the Volkswagen, Macclesafi­eld duo of Ian Wood and Gareth Wilshaw from Neil Shinebaum and Scotney Jarvis of Rhodium Events and in third spot with 45 points were Mark Walker and Chris Hughes of Swizzells Matlow.

The shot of the day came from Chris Talbot (Leisuresal­e.co.uk) who hit his seven-iron straight in on the fly to the 15th for an eagle two.

Nearest the pin prizes went to Tony Longbottom ( Room Search) and Neil Shinebaum.

A Thursday Stableford at Shrigley was won by Winston Dudley-Brown with 39 points, three more than Keith Froggatt and Brian Williams.

The monthly medal at Shrigley had Bob Francis taking division one after a cpo on 71 with Daniel Henshaw and in division two Tony Doyle was the leader with 70.

The RH Stevens Trophy at Macclesfie­ld Golf Club was won by Chris Hawkins with a superb nett 63.

Also celebratin­g were Josh Crumplin with the best gross of 71 and Chris Massey who had a hole in one on the 18th.

Macclesfie­ld ladies played the Life members competitio­n and it was won by Andrea Cheetham with 39 points from Georgina Whalley 37 and Jennette Brown 35.

The Junior Championsh­ip at Styal was won by Finn Manning with 67 and he was chased home by Jack Muir 68 and Will Lucas 69.

The Gents Social Shield at Styal had Dave Taylor as an emphatic winner with 43 points, three more than Kyle Stewart, Jacob Oakley and Mark Mynes.

In a Sunday Stableford at Styal Paul Jones was the main man with 38 points, one clear of Jacob Kilroy.

The ladies Sunday Stableford at Styal was led in by Judith Lacy after a cpo on 34 points with Helen Billington.

Dom Swindells was the main man at Mottram Hall in a singles Stableford posting 41 points to finish four clear of Nigel Tomlinson and Nigel Meadows.

The Captain’s Trophy at Alderley Edge was won by John Tiernan with 40 points from BR Boughey and Trevor Rathbone, both 39.

Edge’s ladies were in Stableford mode with Celia Berent posting 31 points to finish ahead of Mary O’Toole 27 and Barbara Moss, Maureen Monk and Liz Ashton, all 26.

The Manchester Alliance meeting at sunny Disley saw some great slick, subtly sloping greens provide a great challenge for the players enjoying this attractive scenic course.

Local knowledge proved to vital as home pro, and sponsor for the event, Scott Jackson completed a fine double winning both the individual pro section and the pro am section.

In the individual pro section Scott posted some useful Order of Merit points as he led in with a five-under-par round for 41 points, two clear of Andy Palmer (Chorley) and Ian Ridgway, the Disley assistant pro.

In the pro am section Scott and his Alderley Edge partner Neil McGuinness posted 43 points to win from four pairs on 42.

In the cpo on 42 the order was Andy Palmer (Chorley) and Keith Ashton (Bolton), Dave Smith and Jimmy O’Reilly (Swinton Park), Andrew Earlam and Steve Daubney (Oldham) and Ian Ridgway and Dave Bradbury (Disley).

There were new names leading the am am section taken by Ellesmere’s Neil Anderson and John Kilner with 43 points finishing ahead of Barry Jackson (Davyhulme Park) and Ian Hales (Chorlton) 42 and James Parton and Norman Haslam (Stand 41.
