Recorder group tunes up for national airtime in radio contest
MEMBERS of a recorder group that meets at Prestbury Methodist Church are gearing up to enter a national carol competition on the radio.
A quartet from The Society of Recorder Players Macclesfield Branch will record the traditional French carol ‘Noel Nouvelet’ for the contest on Classic FM’s drivetime programme.
Siggi Trier, a member of the amateur group, said: “It’s the first time we’ve entered the competition and we’re very excited about it. Whether we’ll eventually be on the radio or not, it’ll be a great sense of achievement for the group to have done it.”
The quartet consists of Jane Duff, musical director, playing descant recorder, Janet Seltzer, a flute teacher from Tytherington, on treble recorder, new member James Scully on tenor recorder and Richard Foxcroft, who wrote the carol arrangement, on bass recorder.
Station bosses will select five music groups from across the country to perform a carol, with successful entrants notified by December 4.
The whole group of recorder players will hold a carol concert at the Church of the Resurrection in Upton Priory on Sunday, December 6. Tickets are £10, £7 concessions, including coffee and cake. Monthly group meetings begin again at Prestbury Methodist Church on November 14. For tickets or to join the group, call Siggi on 07919 566013.
