Grants for groups from festival

-

AIR cadets were among the community organisations to pick up grants from this year’s Bollington Beer Festival.

The youngsters from 236 Bollington Squadron Air Cadets attended the Bollington Beer Festival community grant awards presentation at The Vale Inn in Bollington.

The awards are made to a variety of community organisations from money raised at the beer festival, which attracts hundreds of ale fans over a weekend in the summer.

The squadron received a grant of £439, which it will use for computer equipment.

The chairman of the squadron’s Civilian Welfare Committee, Fiona Mayne, cadet sergeant Toby Mayne and cadet sergeant Georgia Merrill received the cheque from Roland Edwards of the Bollington Beer Festival Committee.

Nicky Loveday, honorary president of the squadron, said: “The squadron was delighted to receive a very generous grant of £439.96 enabling us to purchase two new laptops and software to support the online learning and exams for the air cadets.

“Thank you so much to the Bollington Beer Festival Committee and everyone who came along to the beer festival and helped raise so much money for local causes – this will make a real difference to our amazing air cadets.”

Ale fans drank nearly 4,000 pints at this year’s Bollington Beer Festival, a two-day event with live music and food which took place at Bollington Arts Centre.

The festival makes grants to community groups and charities in and around Bollington.

It makes its decision based on grant applications which are submitted from the various organisations, which must show a clear community benefit.

Lee Wainwright from Bollington Brewing Company is one of the sponsors. He runs the brewery and The Vale Inn with wife Kirsten.

Lee said: “The beer festival is a great social event and a way of helping groups in Bollington which may not be able to get funding in other ways.

“It’s a great way of helping people in Bollington.”
