Seniors defend their League crown at Dukinfield

IN 2014 Macclesfie­ld Golf Club Seniors were proud winners of the Manchester and District Seniors League.

After another splendid season in 2015 they repeated their success by retaining the title at Dukinfield Golf Club and adding to the celebratio­ns they also had the best pair in Pete Holmes and Rod Price who also repeated their 2015 success.

The President’s Cup at Macclesfie­ld needed a four-hole play-off after Neil Johnson and Bob McGrouther were level on 67.

The play-off was won by Neil with the best gross of 74 coming from Chris Massey.

Medal play for Mottram Hall’s men saw Shok Mirza win a cpo on 75 from Simon Truby with Paul Dunford a shot off the pace.

Medal play also at Shrigley Hall with Graeme Nimmo top of division one after a cpo on 70 with Mark Knight, one less than Brian Hopkins

In division wo Darren Bridge was out on his own with 64, six less than Steve Wells and Howard Stringer.

A Thursday Stableford at Shrigley was won by Sally Trussell after a cpo on 36 points with Charles Green and Peter Trussell was next in with 35.

Styal seniors were in Stableford mode and Dermot Clancy was the main man with a fine haul of 43 points seeing him clear of Jim Stokoe 40 and Harry Mitchell 38.

The seniors then played a Four Club competitio­n with David Riley showing his skills with a fine score of 39 points taking him clear of David Hollick 38 and John Latham 36.

Styal ladies latest Thursday Stableford needed a cpo on 27 points to see Enid Laverty into top spot ahead of Pat Millatt with Diana Prow next in with 26.

Prestbury Golf Club’s East Cheshire League A Captain and Cheshire seniors star Gill Mellor (pictured) enjoyed a great golfing experience by qualifying for the inaugural Old Mutual Wealth Challenge finals which had an original entry from 595 clubs.

She joined seven other ladies and eight men to play at the world famous Old Head Golf Links.

The spectacula­r course is perched on a promontory reaching out from the southern coastline of Ireland at Kinsale in County Cork.

To reach the final Gill was nominated from her nominated club medal and then come through a regional final to make it through to the dream final.

In the final the two-handicappe­r posted 86 to finish in a creditable sixth spot.
