Se­niors de­fend their League crown at Duk­in­field

IN 2014 Mac­cles­field Golf Club Se­niors were proud win­ners of the Manch­ester and Dis­trict Se­niors League.

Af­ter an­other splen­did sea­son in 2015 they re­peated their suc­cess by re­tain­ing the ti­tle at Duk­in­field Golf Club and adding to the cel­e­bra­tions they also had the best pair in Pete Holmes and Rod Price who also re­peated their 2015 suc­cess.

The Pres­i­dent’s Cup at Mac­cles­field needed a four-hole play-off af­ter Neil John­son and Bob McGrouther were level on 67.

The play-off was won by Neil with the best gross of 74 com­ing from Chris Massey.

Medal play for Mot­tram Hall’s men saw Shok Mirza win a cpo on 75 from Si­mon Truby with Paul Dun­ford a shot off the pace.

Medal play also at Shrigley Hall with Graeme Nimmo top of divi­sion one af­ter a cpo on 70 with Mark Knight, one less than Brian Hop­kins

In divi­sion wo Dar­ren Bridge was out on his own with 64, six less than Steve Wells and Howard Stringer.

A Thurs­day Sta­ble­ford at Shrigley was won by Sally Trus­sell af­ter a cpo on 36 points with Charles Green and Pe­ter Trus­sell was next in with 35.

Styal se­niors were in Sta­ble­ford mode and Der­mot Clancy was the main man with a fine haul of 43 points see­ing him clear of Jim Stokoe 40 and Harry Mitchell 38.

The se­niors then played a Four Club com­pe­ti­tion with David Ri­ley show­ing his skills with a fine score of 39 points tak­ing him clear of David Hol­lick 38 and John Latham 36.

Styal ladies lat­est Thurs­day Sta­ble­ford needed a cpo on 27 points to see Enid Laverty into top spot ahead of Pat Mil­latt with Diana Prow next in with 26.

Prest­bury Golf Club’s East Cheshire League A Cap­tain and Cheshire se­niors star Gill Mel­lor (pic­tured) en­joyed a great golf­ing ex­pe­ri­ence by quali­fy­ing for the in­au­gu­ral Old Mu­tual Wealth Chal­lenge fi­nals which had an orig­i­nal en­try from 595 clubs.

She joined seven other ladies and eight men to play at the world fa­mous Old Head Golf Links.

The spec­tac­u­lar course is perched on a promon­tory reach­ing out from the south­ern coast­line of Ire­land at Kin­sale in County Cork.

To reach the fi­nal Gill was nom­i­nated from her nom­i­nated club medal and then come through a re­gional fi­nal to make it through to the dream fi­nal.

In the fi­nal the two-hand­i­cap­per posted 86 to fin­ish in a cred­itable sixth spot.
