Festive sci-fi fun as Geeky Xmas returns

-

A TRIO of self confessed geeks are bringing their love of all things sci-fi to the town with a nerdthemed Christmas fair.

It’s the third year Catherine Cowdrey, Laura Crow and James Shepherd have organised the ‘Have Yourself A Very Geeky Christmas’ event, which sees Macclesfield Senior Citizens Hall transformed into a haven for all things geek, with a whole range of sci-fi, film, fantasy and literature themed stalls.

There will even be a Harry Potter tearoom selling ‘Butterbeer’ and live music based on the books. Catherine, 22, who went to Tytherington High School with Laura, said: “We just thought it would be a bit of fun and a bit different to your usual Christmas fairs, and it’s a good way to get lots of like minded people socialising.

“You don’t have to be a geek to enjoy it, everything is home made so it’s great to get some really quirky presents that you can’t get elsewhere.”

Catherine added: “We’ve had quite a lot of interest in this year’s event so it’s getting bigger and bigger each year. We’d really like is to encourage people to come in fancy dress. People go all out for Comicon in Manchester so it would be fantastic if we can get people involved here too.”

The fair takes place on Saturday, December 5, between noon and 4pm.

Stalls include stationary stalls, handmade Christmas decorations, alternative movie posters. There will also be a pub style quiz, photo booth, and Mark Jackson will be running a cartoon workshop.
