OUR Facebook followers had mixed reaction to the artist’s impression of a new proposals for a £13m retail park at the Barracks Mill site. David Griffin: It will be good for Macclesfield Town and it will get rid of that eyesore plus it means more jobs for Macclesfield youths. Anna Gough: Love it but it won’t happen. We’ll be stuck with the eyesore currently there forever because people in Macc don’t like progression. Andrew Ryan: This looks great! Shame it probably won’t happen, just waiting for the ‘Macclesfield doesn’t need this’ brigade to get involved and it will go the same way as the town centre redevelopment plan. Laura Jayne Barnett: I’m all for it. Macclesfield needs redevelopment. Liz Robinson: There is no joy shopping in Macclesfield, it is one of the most depressing town centres I have ever come across. Robin Jones: So a major retail site away from the town centre, that makes sense?!?!?. Who on earth makes these decisions...it really does begger belief!!!! Thought we needed more housing? Sarah Marie Storm: Very ugly indeed! Lauren Mann: In principle it’s a good idea/ plan. But conditions need to be made to the builders and outlets, meaning only people from the Macclesfield area are employed, plus it should be revealed who is proposed to go into the units.

It seems pointless having say another Costa Coffee when there is one in town and inside Tesco.

Yes look at regenerating the area to make it safe and usable but also outlets that are affordable and what people actually want. Matthew Cunningham: Let’s hope it happens... and let the stores chosen reflect what families need, what may bring in new blood to the town and not cater for the same old same olds! Heidi Reid: Just read the article – what are ‘bulky goods stores?’ Lots of nice drawings & that’s a site that desperately needs to be developed, but I’m not sure I’m any the wiser as to what’s being proposed! Sophie Ann Frame: As long as it isn’t filled with another phone shop, go ahead... Karen Martin: Looks great but probably won’t happen. Martin Draper: It will never happen like everything else in Macc. Another fortune spent on fancy drawings and models that will just get shelved with the rest that never happened. Why do we need another coffee shop?

If it does get built it will ultimately end up full of charity shops because the rates and rent will be too high for anybody to survive. Why don’t we manufacture something to sell abroad and bring some money back into the country, just a thought. Gary Wellington: We’ve already got a retail park. Would be better as a proper park with grass and trees.... anybody remember them? Kerry Gibson: Silk Road will become a tighter bottleneck. This will further impact Hibel Road and the town centre. Oh the joys of shopping in Macclesfield. Graham Robinson: Looks good but I won’t hold my breath... We’ll all debate it for months and we’ll end up leaving it as the unsafe eyesore that’s been there for years already... Anna K M Murphy: Won’t happen. The people on this town just live to refuse anything new! Shame they only think about themselves and not the future generations or the jobs it could create. Jessica Rigby: Who ever opposes this has serious issues! Like the plans for the new town centre development; who were the people even saying no to that! The world is massively advancing along with technology! It’s time to live in the future instead of the past and trying to keep things the same... If this goes ahead the benefits will be so rewarding to residents of Macclesfield along with getting rid of the unsafe site that is presented there now as I know when I was younger, we would trespass on to the Barracks Mill and play in the derelict building!!! Marty Hill: About time something was done with the site. Lesley Anne Baxendale: Anything might be preferable to what’s there now, but this development looks just the same as every other town. Why can’t it have a bit more character? Dom Farley: Looks good. And a suggested cinema seems a good idea. Samantha Louise Boucher: Great apart from the HGVs dedicated access via Black Lane, not sure how that would impact the houses there. Michele Slack: Looks good, anything is better than how it looks now! More jobs got to be good for Macc people. Kyoris Barr: Ten years from now I will be probably be reading the tenth boring artists impression of some dreamed up “proposal” for the Barracks Mill site. Dream on. Lisa Lawrenson: We need something, although I’m sure the people with the sole intent to keep Macclesfield as a complete dump will soon object! Stuart Bailey: Fantastic idea. Better it being in the town centre than out of town. Rachel Toni Bushy: Looks great and will provide local jobs. Maureen Scott: Put the cinema here, with courtesy buses from Churchill Way. Donna Moss: Looks very nice indeed. Jen Langley: Great idea. Hope this goes ahead. ●● WE featured a story about the public being banned from Knight’s Pool in Macclesfield following anti-social behaviour. Holly Nettle: This is a shame because it’s a really interesting pool to explore around. I suppose it costs too much to keep it safely accessible.

I lived backing onto it and most people going round there were lovely. Karen Barker: As kids in the 70s we used to play harmlessly around there, build dens and fish for sticklebacks and newts. I think it’s a great shame that the kids of today will miss out on this because this behaviour of a few isn’t been tackled.
