Big cash prize for lucky Anne

-

A NEARBY chair came in handy for one Poynton resident when she received a phone call from East Cheshire Hospice.

The call was to tell Anne Wynn that she had won £1,000 on the weekly Hospice Lottery draw – a prize she describes as the biggest surprise of her life.

“I never, ever win anything,” said Anne. “So this was a real shock.”

Anne, 67, has been a hospice lottery player since June 2011 and this is the first time she has been a big money winner.

Formerly a nurse at Trafford General Hospital, Anne has had associations with various hospices during her working career and understands fully the valuable work which the hospice does.

When a door-to-door lottery canvasser called, Anne decided that it was the perfect way to regularly support the hospice as well as have a chance to win. And it made her planned trip to Venice and Lake Garda all the more enjoyable knowing that it wouldn’t be hitting her purse quite so hard.

Anne is back in Poynton with some wonderful memories and photographs of her visit, including some with Marco, her East Cheshire Hospice lottery bear, who accompanied her on the trip.

Now in its 20th year, the lottery provides a vital source of income to help the hospice pay for much needed care and support for patients and families.

Lottery manager Paul Marsh said he has one of the best jobs in the country, giving away 23 cash prizes every week.

He added: “Lottery tickets, or vouchers, can be customised and sometimes people give them away as favours at their wedding. And at just £1 each or £1.50 for customised vouchers, they’d even make great Christmas presents.”
