Endurance test in the jungle comes to an end

-

So that’s almost it for another year. The assorted famous faces have been whittled down over the past three weeks and now we’re down to the final few. If you’re late to the I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here! (Sunday, ITV, 9pm) party, you may be wondering what all the fuss is about. Well, the latest series kicked off on Sunday November 15, when Spandau Ballet frontman Tony Hadley and fashionista Susannah Constantine got to choose their teams from a hangar before embracing the horror of the bush. It didn’t take long for lads’mag favourite Jorgie Porter, aka Theresa McQueen in Hollyoaks, to grab the attention of many a red-blooded bloke, while footy star Kieron Dyer, former boxer Chris Eubank and Union J singer George Shelley left millions of ladies weak at the knees. Obviously there were plenty of other contestants suffering for their art, or those plastic stars which mean the difference between a semi-decent meal and rice and beans. The X Factor’s creative director Brian Friedman, former Dragon’s Den star Duncan Bannatyne and Most Haunted’sYvette Fielding helped generate plenty of giggles, but every year the public latched onto one difficult contestant, and in 2015 it looked like Lady Colin Campbell was it. Her biographies on Princess Diana and the Queen Mother caused a few ruffled feathers, and ‘Lady C’s’performance during the first few days also left some gnashing their teeth. Admittedly she was great fun with Jorgie during the early Disaster Chef challenge, chomping bugs and various animal parts without batting much of an eyelid. However, when she andYvette later entered a contest to prove they weren’t lazy, her mood darkened and some of the campmates were shocked at the resulting outburst. "There is nothing in this world that would induce me to participate in something that is a complete injustice. I’m going back to camp," she railed. Of course it’s moments like that which have kept millions hooked since the series started in 2002. The mix of Survivor and Celebrity Big Brother looked a little convoluted at the time, but the show soon proved to have stronger legs than a kangaroo, and kept bounding back year after a year. It’s anyone’s guess who will follow in Carl Fogerty’s footsteps and win the latest contest, but we can tell you that hosts Ant and Dec will be on hand to announce the victor before the evening is finished.
