Things looking up for Fitzpatrick
MACCLESFIELD Town defender David Fitzpatrick says playing for the Silkmen has been a stark contrast to the last few years of his career.
Fitzpatrick spent last season playing for fellow National League side Southport, with the side finishing two places above the relegation zone.
The 25-year-old now finds himself in a team that are challenging for promotion though, something he is glad to be a part of.
“This season has been totally different from last year and I’m really enjoying it at the moment,” he said.
“The last couple of seasons at Southport I had been looking down at the teams below us in the table but now we are looking up and that really makes a difference.
“We’ve been on two good runs since I’ve started playing in the team and hopefully we can continue this push and move into the play-offs.”
Fitzpatrick joined Macclesfield on a four-month contract at the start of September, and he has been happy with his form in recent weeks.
“If you look at the stats since I’ve started playing, we have won quite a few games so it’s going really well,” he said.
“It was tough at the start when I was trying to get fit after missing so much time but I’m starting to feel strong again.
“We are playing some good football here and winning these games on the bounce pushes us on, so hopefully we can get a few more wins before Christmas and that will put us right in the mix.”
The Macclesfield squad appears to be at full strength after injuries rocked the side a few weeks ago, but Fitzpatrick is confident that he can keep his place in the starting 11.
“There is a lot of quality on the bench so the manager has got some tough decisions to make but I’m confident in myself,” he said.
“With the way I’m playing at the moment I don’t think I have too much to worry about just yet.”
Fitzpatrick began his career with Stockport County and has also had spells with Northwich Victoria and New Mills.
