Spirit of Manchester captured by international artist

-

WE are all passionate about our birthplace, but perhaps no one is more so than Manchester-born artist E Anthony Orme, whose work can be viewed and purchased at both his gallery space and his website.

Born in the West Gorton area of Manchester, Orme inherited a love of art from his mother, and has pursued his craft with passion, travelling abroad to paint and producing work with live models in his studio.

The new online art gallery means that the fine art and prints can be viewed online, and custom-made to suit your requirements. You can choose from paper or canvas, colour or black and white, and even view how your finished piece will look in a range of the available frames.

E Anthony Orme Gallery are consumer and trade suppliers of the finest quality open edition prints, low numbered limited edition prints and original paintings by E Anthony Orme and Vlasta Orme, who has become well recognised for her mastery of multiple mediums.

They also provide a range of additional services including picture framing, comprehensive fine art scanning, and an art/photo printing service. The gallery has a photography studio where professional portrait photography shoots or passport photos take place.

E Anthony Orme talked us through two of his most iconic works from around the city.

An oil on board painting of the Shambles - now the site of our Christmas markets and newly opened Corn Exchange - perfectly captures the area.

Orme said, “I have painted the Shambles Manchester many times, but this is the first time I have painted it in the snow. This is a wonderful old building with obvious historical interest and I know I will paint it many more times.”

Many of us walk past Sawyer’s Arms on Deansgate each and every day, but Orme’s oil painting captures it in an awe-inspiring new way.

“This oil painting of the Sawyers Arms, Deansgate has more detail in it than I intended to render originally. However once into the painting I realized that the detail “made” the painting work and to lose any of this vital information would sell the painting short.

“I hope my idea of light, wet and airy ambiance has worked. You can be the judge.”
