Designer lifts the lid on uni life to students

- RHIANNON MCDOWALL

AN up and coming fashion designer returned to Macclesfield College to help current year two students as they prepare for their university degree applications.

Lottie Coleman joined fashion course leader Angela Devoti as a guest to interview students and give them a realistic experience of the type of questions asked at the BA HONS Fashion interviews which will be taking place soon.

She said: “Coming back to the college was so special; I loved looking around my old studios seeing my tutor and the current students. The second years all did really well during their mock interviews and I know how nerve racking this can be but each student was so professional. I was equally impressed with their portfolios – I wish them all the very best towards their up and coming interviews.”

Phoebe Hilton, who is a year two student on the college’s University of the Arts London course in Fashion, said: “It was a really good experience for all of us to take part in a real interview. Meeting Lottie really helped me as I was able to ask questions and find out what she loves about her course and doing fashion in general.”

Fellow student Hannah Blackholly added: “I felt the interview went really well – it was great practice for future interviews and I enjoyed hearing about Lottie’s life as a university student and young designer.”

Angela Devoti, course leader for Fashion at Mac- clesfield College, said former students are invited to return each year to meet with current pupils.

She said Lottie was an ‘incredible’ student who worked very hard.

She said: “Having Lottie join me on the interview panel was perfect.

“She used all her knowl- edge as a young designer to interview the students alongside me and helped to create an enriching experience for all of them.

“The second years were also treated to a group critique about their current design work and heard all about Lottie’s fantastic experience working in industry and planning towards her show this June.

“The students found this inspiring to hear about Lottie’s journey from college to degree student and assistant to a contemporary designer.

“We were so happy to have her back and for her to share her creative practice with the students.”
